Steelers Veteran Playmaker Surprisingly Called Possible Option For Panthers

Pittsburgh will have to make a tough decision

The 2024 National Football League season hasn’t even kicked off and yet some already have speculated about possible moves that could be made after the season.

The Pittsburgh Steelers are an interesting team to watch out for because they have a talented young core and it would be surprising if they were able to pay everyone. The Steelers ultimately will have to make some tough decisions at some point and one player who was mentioned as a possible option for the Carolina Panthers after the season ends is tight end Pat Freiermuth by Bleacher Report’s Zachary Rymer.

“2025 Free Agency: TE Pat Freiermuth, Pittsburgh Steelers,” Rymer said. “Especially if the front office re-signs Diontae Johnson in the offseason, Carolina has a solid trio of wide receivers between Johnson, Adam Theilen, and Xavier Legette. However, the offense is lacking a difference-maker at tight end.

“Freiermuth might be coming off a down year in 2023 where he battled injuries and struggled to be productive in Pittsburgh’s putrid offense, but he’s still racked up 155 catches for 1,537 yards and 11 touchdowns during his first three seasons. Also, the Penn State product doesn’t turn 26 until October, making him a good target for a young team.”

This is just a prediction and isn’t in any way reporting that Freiermuth is interested in leaving the Steelers. Hopefully, this doesn’t end up happening and the big playmaker sticks around with Pittsburgh for the foreseeable future. If he were to become available, though, don’t be surprised if there is a lot of interest in him.
