The Pittsburgh Steelers are going to have a tough decision to make in the near future.
No matter what happens, the Steelers likely will be better in 2024 than they were in 2023. The Steelers won 10 games last year but finished in third place in the AFC North. Pittsburgh seems to be in a much better place on paper and should be better whether Russell Wilson or Justin Fields is the starting quarterback in 2024.
Wilson has been the expected starter since landing with the Steelers in free agency. The Steelers also acquired Fields in a trade with the Chicago Bears and it has been the expectation that Wilson would start in 2024 and Fields could take over afterward. Things have slightly changed, and now it’s more of a question.
It’s certainly up in the air who will be playing quarterback for the Steelers and some now are thinking it could be Fields. Former Steelers Pro Bowler Ryan Clark is an analyst for ESPN and claimed that Fields will take over the team and bring them to the playoffs, as transcribed by Sports Illustrated’s Jacob Punturi.
“Justin Fields is going to lead the Pittsburgh Steelers to the playoffs,” Punturi transcribed. “(Mike Tomlin) always fields a competent team. A competitive team. Now he’s (going to) have a dynamic playmaker at quarterback, and they will be in the playoffs.”

At this point, it’s still too early to tell who will be the quarterback and it still seems like it’s Wilson’s job to lose, but fans should keep a close eye on the team as preseason games begin.
