The Pittsburgh Steelers seemingly are in a great spot right now with the 2024 National Football League season quickly approaching but that doesn’t mean that tough decisions won’t have to be made in the near future.
Like every other NFL Franchise, the Steelers will have to trim down their roster significantly before the new season kicks off. This means that a plethora of players will end up getting cut and some could even be traded. At this point, there really is no way to know for sure what the Steelers will do, but it’s clear that changes are coming.
Pro Football Network’s Anthony DiBona attempted to put together a list of one player who could be traded by each AFC North team this summer and listed six-time Pro Bowler Cameron Heyward as the option from the Steelers.
“Pittsburgh Steelers: Cameron Heyward, DL,” DiBona said. “There is no denying that Pittsburgh Steelers defensive lineman Cameron Heyward will be remembered as an all-time great in franchise history. Yet the Steelers could opt to trade him as he heads into the final season of his final contract. Heyward had just two sacks last season, and Pittsburgh would save $16 million by trading him in 2024.”
First and foremost, this is just a hypothetical option and at this point, there is no way to know if the Steelers would even consider a deal involving Heyward. He has been an integral part of the Steelers’ defense for the last 13 years. He may not have had his best season in 2023, but he only appeared in 11 games.

Heyward made six straight Pro Bowls from 2017 through 2022 and also was named an All-Pro three times over that stretch. He now is 35 years old but seems to have plenty left in the tank. A trade involving Heyward would make sense from a cost-cutting perspective, but it still would be shocking to see him playing elsewhere. At this point, no move should be expected.
