Pirates Reportedly Land Veteran Reliever In Trade With Rockies Ahead Of Deadline

Pittsburgh continues to add to the roster

The Pittsburgh Pirates certainly have been busy with the trade deadline just about here.

Pittsburgh is right in the mix for a National League Wild Card spot and has been busy ahead of the trade deadline. The Pirates have been in trade rumors for weeks and have been linked to multiple stars, including Jazz Chisholm Jr. before he was traded to the New York Yankees.

The Pirates may not have landed Chisholm, but they still have been active and acquired elite prospect Nick Yorke in a trade with the Boston Red Sox. Pittsburgh didn’t stop there and reportedly landed veteran reliever Jalen Beeks in a trade with the Colorado Rockies on Monday night, according to MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand.

“The Rockies are trading (Left-handed pitcher) Jalen Beeks to the Pirates, per source,” Feinsand said. “Colorado will receive Double-A (Left-handed pitcher) Luis Peralta.”

Beeks is an interesting player to help the Pirates down the stretch. He is a six-year big league veteran and has spent time with the Red Sox, Tampa Bay Rays, Rockies, and now the Pirates. He has logged a 4.74 ERA so far this year in 45 appearances to go along with a 38-to-18 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 49 1/3 innings pitched.

The veteran lefty could bounce back down the stretch and had his best season as a big leaguer in 2022 as a member of the Rays. That year he logged a 2.80 ERA in 42 appearances. If the Pirates could get that version of Beeks down the stretch, that could be a game-changer.
