Training Camp is underway for all teams and the Pittsburgh Steelers already have a bit of bad news.
Pittsburgh officially started camp on Wednesday, with the team reporting to get prepared for the 2024 campaign. A big part of the new season for the Steelers is Russell Wilson. The longtime quarterback signed with the team for a one-year, $1.2 million deal in the offseason after his tenure with the Denver Broncos came to an end after two years.
Unfortunately for Wilson, training camp isn’t off to the easiest start.
Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin revealed on Thursday that he decided to keep the 35-year-old out of practice due to a calf injury.
“Starts aren’t always ideal, but that’s like life, man,” Tomlin said, as transcribed by ESPN’s Brooke Pryor. “Russ woke up today, his calf was tight. It was my decision to sit him down today, create a little short-term discomfort for him, not allowing a small problem to become a bigger problem.”

As a result of missing time, Justin Fields took all the first-team snaps for Pittsburgh. While both quarterbacks were starters last season, Wilson entered training camp as “the guy,” according to The Athletic’s Mark Kaboly.
Hopefully, the tight calf won’t be a problem for Wilson long and he can get back on the field for the Steelers on Friday.
