Pirates Urged To ‘Buy Some Bats’ With Trade Deadline Quickly Approaching

How will the Pirates handle the upcoming trade deadline?

The Pittsburgh Pirates are one of the most exciting teams to watch with the 2024 Major League Baseball trade deadline just over one week away.

Pittsburgh has taken the baseball world by storm over the last few months thanks in large part to the addition of young All-Star Paul Skenes to the starting rotation. The Pirates are loaded with exciting, young talent and have a real chance to make a run at a playoff spot as soon as this year.

The Pirates are just a 1/2 game out of a National League Wild Card spot and are starting to look like a team that could add at the upcoming trade deadline. MLB.com put together a list of suggestions for what each club should do ahead of the deadline and Alex Stumpf suggested the Pirates should “buy some bats.”

“The Pirates are making calls to acquire more hitters, and they have enough young pitching prospects to get a deal or two done,” Stumpf said. “The Pirates’ 402 runs scored were tied for the third-fewest in the National League in the first half, and that’s due in large part to a couple of positions where the Pirates haven’t gotten much offensive production, especially in the outfield, where only Bryan Reynolds has consistently produced. It seems very unlikely the Pirates will trade a top prospect, such as a Bubba Chandler, but they have plenty of appealing depth arms that could either be lumped together or sold on their own to get another bat.”

Fans won’t have to wait much longer to see what the Pirates will do, but it certainly is an exciting time to be a Pittsburgh fan. Things are looking up for the Pirates and a solid trade deadline could help confirm that fact even more.
