Could the Pittsburgh Steelers add another playmaker in the near future?
Well, one could be on the market.
San Francisco 49ers superstar receiver Brandon Aiyuk has been in rumors all offseason so far as he has been looking for a new deal. The 49ers haven’t buckled and at this point, it’s unclear if a new contract is coming with San Francisco. Rumors have been swirling and Aiyuk recently even requested a trade.
The 49ers don’t need to fulfill the request, but Aiyuk asking out already has led many to wonder what his next team possibly could be in the event of a trade. It’s all speculation and hypotheticals at this point, but Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox called the Steelers a possible landing spot.
“49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk is the common-sense choice for our No. 1 spot,” Knox said. “He possesses a fantastic combination of talent, youth, and upside, and he’s interested in pushing his way out of San Francisco…(Adam Schefter) also noted that San Francisco has told interested teams that it has ‘no intention’ of trading Aiyuk. Of course, that stance should be expected. The 49ers aren’t going to maximize Aiyuk’s trade value by telling teams they don’t want to keep him…

“The Steelers would provide a logical landing spot for Aiyuk for a couple of reasons. They’re looking to find a long-term answer at quarterback in either Russell Wilson or Justin Fields and have reportedly been looking for a veteran receiver to pair with budding star George Pickens…The Steelers have just $15.9 million in cap space but could likely make a backloaded contract work.”
A deal likely would cost a lot, but Aiyuk would be a great fit in a Steelers offense that already is expected to be better thanks to the addition of quarterback Russell Wilson. Giving him another weapon like Aiyuk could help take Pittsburgh to an even higher level in 2024.
