Steelers Called ‘Potential Landing Spot’ For Veteran Receiver On Trade Block

Could the Steelers add the playmaker this summer?

Pittsburgh Steelers fans should be excited about the team heading into the 2024 season.

Training camp is going to kick off in the next few weeks and then soon enough the new campaign will be here. Pittsburgh seems to be on the rise and should be able to compete in the AFC North. The Steelers won 10 games last year but should be even better in 2024 after adding Russell Wilson to the mix.

Pittsburgh may not be done adding, too. With training camp almost here, there surely will be some intriguing players available. Franchises will need to start trimming down rosters and that means that players could be cut and become free agents or even some trades on the horizon.

Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox put together a list of 10 players on the trade block heading into training camp with possible landing spots and mentioned New York Giants receiver Darius Slayton and called the Steelers a possible option to land him in a trade.

“Giants wide receiver Darius Slayton skipped part of the offseason while seeking a new contract,” Knox said. “While he didn’t get a new deal, he did receive a contract adjustment that added some 2024 incentives…There’s still no guarantee that Slayton will play his ball in New York this season. The Giants used a first-round pick on Malik Nabers, added Allen Robinson II in free agency and have young receivers with upside in Wan’Dale Robinson and Jalin Hyatt. Releasing or trading Slayton would save the Giants $3.4 million in 2024 cap space.

“Slayton has never reached 800 receiving yards in a season, and the Giants could value the cap savings—and an open role—more than his services on the final year of his contract. For a team with less receiver depth, however, he could be a fine complementary option. The Steelers could have some interest in Slayton as they continue their search for a No. 2 receiver. Slayton has shown that his ceiling is limited, but Pittsburgh has its top option in George Pickens.”

Slayton has shown some promise and could be a solid option behind Pickens. He had 50 receptions last year for 770 receiving yards and likely wouldn’t cost too much in a trade. A trade certainly shouldn’t be considered likely and this is a hypothetical, but it could help if it became a reality.
