Pirates Select 11 Players Through 10 Rounds Of 2024 MLB Draft

Pittsburgh is looking to build their future

The Pittsburgh Pirates continue to build the organization through the MLB Draft.

Monday saw Day 2 of the 2024 MLB Draft take place, making it through the first 10 rounds. The Pirates kicked off their draft by selecting the first high school player, grabbing Jackson Prep (Miss.) shortstop/outfielder Konnor Griffin with the ninth overall pick. He will try to follow in Paul Skenes’ footsteps making an impact sooner than later — which remains to be seen.

Following the selection of Griffin, the Pirates had a pick in the Competitive Balance–A round. Pittsburgh nabbed yet another high school player with the 37th overall pick, this time selecting Notre Dame High School (Calif.) right-handed pitcher Levi Sterling. He was MLB.com’s 58th-ranked prospect heading into the draft.

Here’s a look at the 11 picks for Pittsburgh thus far through the first 10 rounds, including their school and position:

Round 2: Wyatt Sanford, SS — Independence High School (Texas)
Round 3: Josh Hartle, P — Wake Forest
Round 4: Eddie Rynders, SS — Wisconsin Lutheran High School
Round 5: Will Taylor, OF — Clemson
Round 6: Matt Ager, P — UC Santa Barbara
Round 7: Connor Wietgrefe, P — Minnesota
Round 8: Gavin Adams, P — Florida State
Round 9: Duce Gourson, SS — UCLA
Round 10: Derek Berg, C — Army West Point
