The Pittsburgh Pirates should be better in 2024 than they were in 2023 but they still have some tough decisions to make.
Pittsburgh recently lost cornerback Cam Sutton after he was suspended for the first eight games of the 2024 season for violating the league’s Personal Conduct Policy.
The Steelers now will need to reevaluate the cornerback position at least for the beginning of the season and a reunion with eight-time Pro Bowler Patrick Peterson was mentioned as a hypothetical option by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette’s Ray Fittipaldo.
“If by mid-August none of these guys are standing out, I think we’re back to square one with the Patrick Peterson talk,” Fiitipaldo said. “It was a topic all throughout March and April because he was let go in mid-March. Hasn’t signed anywhere else yet, but I think a guy of that stature would be a nice add for half a season.”
Peterson currently is a free agent after spending the 2024 season with the Steelers. He appeared in 17 games overall and started 16. He had two interceptions and 11 passes defended to go along with 42 total tackles. Peterson has been one of the best cornerbacks in football since entering the league in 2011 and still could be a solid depth pickup for the Steelers.

Pittsburgh clearly has a need right now at cornerback. Why not consider a reunion?
