How will the Pittsburgh Pirates handle the upcoming 2024 Major League Baseball trade deadline?
The deadline will be here before you know it and the Pirates are a team that has been mentioned in rumors over the last few weeks. Pittsburgh currently has a 47-48 record and is in contention for a National League Wild Card spot. Pittsburgh may be one game under .500, but it has been one of the most exciting teams in baseball over the last month thanks in large part to All-Star rookie Paul Skenes.
Pittsburgh is in a good spot and looks like it will be in contention for a Wild Card spot throughout the remainder of the season. If the Pirates can have a solid trade deadline, their chances of making the playoffs will be even higher.
The Pirates have been linked to a handful of teams and reportedly have shown interest in Los Angeles Angels outfielder Taylor Ward, according to FanSided’s Robert Murray.
“The Pirates have interest in Angels outfielder Taylor Ward, but no deal is or has been close, and he is one of many options that the team is considering,” Murray said. “Pittsburgh has signaled a willingness to part with pitching prospects in an effort to acquire offensive reinforcements, sources say.”

Nothing is imminent at this point and there is no way for sure to know what the club will do with the deadline still a few weeks away. While this is the case, a trade for Ward could make a lot of sense.
Ward is having arguably the best offensive season of his career to this point and has 14 home runs and 44 RBIs through 91 games played. His career-highs are 23 home runs and 65 RBIs and it looks like he will pass both unless he suffers an injury at some point.
If the Pirates could add that type of production to the middle of the lineup at the upcoming trade deadline, they would have an even better chance of competing for a playoff spot.
