The Pittsburgh Pirates got some unfortunate news on Saturday.
Pittsburgh took another step toward .500 by taking down the Chicago White Sox by a score of 6-2. Although it was a positive day overall, the Pirates got some bad news as outfielder Andrew McCutchen was forced to leave the contest due to hamstring discomfort, according to the team.
“Andrew McCutchen was removed from this afternoon’s game due to left hamstring discomfort,” the team announced. “He is currently being evaluated and treated. His status is day-to-day.”
The fact that his status immediately has been called day-to-day is a positive sign, but fans should be keeping a close eye on him. Hamstring injuries can be tough but luckily McCutchen should have some time to rest in the near future. The Pirates have one more game on Sunday before heading into the All-Star Break and won’t play again until next Friday.
McCutchen is an important piece for the Pirates and has had a solid first half of the season. So far, he has clubbed 12 home runs and driven in 25 runs in 79 games played.

Hopefully, he won’t have to miss much time if any after the All-Star Break. The Pirates have a real chance of making it back to the postseason and could use all of the offense they can get. Pittsburgh is in a good spot with the 2024 Major League Baseball trade deadline quickly approaching and could be in the market to add.
No matter what happens, McCutchen is going to continue to be an important piece for the club so hopefully he is able to make a full recovery in the very near future.
